Update on On-Campus Instruction Leading Up to Winter Break

Dear Berkeley Carroll Community,

I hope that you had a good and restorative Thanksgiving break.

I am writing to touch base about our intentions regarding on-campus instruction during the weeks leading up to the Winter Vacation.

As we resume on-campus classes this week, we will continue our surveillance testing program, which is designed to detect COVID-19 should it emerge in the community while allowing us to respond to any positive cases with targeted quarantining and contact tracing intended to mitigate the spread of the virus.

Cognizant that medical professionals and government officials are reminding New Yorkers to expect an uptick in cases, we are prepared for the possibility that we will see more positive tests in the weeks ahead. Our testing and contact tracing protocols will help us determine how our school community is faring within this context.

It is reassuring that these tools, along with masking, distancing, and handwashing, have proven very effective in curbing the spread of COVID in schools. Having said this, we remain alert to both internal and external indicators and intend to remain agile as we go forward. The health and wellbeing of our community is paramount and we will make any adjustments that seem prudent as we continue to navigate this fluid situation.

As always, it is critical that the Health Team be notified of anyone who has known or suspected exposure to COVID 19 or who requires quarantine based on travel to areas non-contiguous to New York State.  We are very grateful for the cooperation that we have received thus far in these matters and look forward to continued collaboration with you.

Take good care.

Sincerely,

Lisa Yvette Waller, Ph.D.
