BC Talks: The Arc Towards Justice

The Upper School participated in a day long series of discussions and workshops reflecting on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the work of activists today for “BC Talks: The Arc Toward Justice”!

Students heard a keynote address from author and scholar Dr. Mecca Jamilah Sullivan, Assistant Professor of English at Bryn Mawr College, who spoke on Black Feminism, poetry, and joy and how they can deepen activism today.

Upper School History Teacher Ashley Finigan provided a history of the origins of MLK Day, including the efforts of music legend Stevie Wonder to help create the national holiday; and Upper School History Teacher Amber Thomas taught a lesson on Critical Race Theory before students broke into discussion groups to examine race in technology, medicine, environmentalism, and more.
