Lower School students packed the BC Athletic Center for our Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month Assembly!
Our wonderfully diverse Berkeley Carroll community came together to proudly share the countries from which they or their ancestors immigrated, highlighting what makes their heritage so special, such as the delicious foods, lively music, traditional dances, and fun games.
With community members representing Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Venezuela, Uruguay, and Colombia, just to name a few, students learned fun facts about these countries and received just a small taste of their unique vibrant culture.
Señora Castro read Maria Mariposa, a book by author Karla Arenas Valenti, about a nervous little girl starting a new school and how her cultural identity helps her find confidence and embrace who she is.
As a special surprise, Mr. Erick and Ms. Sharifah performed a dance from the region of Panama and Costa Rica called the Tambor Congo, meaning “Freedom Celebration.”
Colorful and heartwarming, the event showcased the rich diversity and vibrant cultures within our school. ¡Wepa!
