Middle School Humanities Leave Replacement Teacher 2021

Berkeley Carroll is a Pre-K through grade 12 college preparatory school of 970 students located in the Park Slope section of New York City. Our vibrant learning environment draws students from all over the city. Admission to the school is competitive, and both our parents and students value achievement and community.

The Berkeley Carroll Middle School seeks a dynamic and flexible Humanities teacher for an 8th grade leave replacement position beginning in April and ending in June. The ability to think on one’s feet, plan with one or more teachers, and be open to teaching a curriculum already in session is essential. The candidate will have opportunities for the customization and personalization of lessons but should be comfortable jumping into an ongoing unit or novel. Humor, flexibility and experience with technology is imperative. Currently, the schedule is operating on a hybrid model with 4 days a week in person and one day of remote learning.

The Humanities program, although heavily reliant on a framework of history and literature, draws widely from religion, philosophy, social science, arts, geography and ethics to provide context and meaning. At each grade level, the curriculum fosters the growth of skill-building ranging from grammar, spelling and vocabulary to the ability to think analytically and acutely about global issues.

Berkeley Carroll is committed to creating an environment that includes a diversity of perspectives and to cultivating an equitable, inclusive learning community in which everyone has a true sense of belonging. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to, and experience with, diversity, equity or inclusion work are especially encouraged to apply.

Candidates should send a resume, cover letter, references and teaching statement to creynolds-tannen@berkeleycarroll.org. No phone calls please.
