Berkeley Carroll is a Pre-K through grade 12 college preparatory school of close to 1000 students located in the Park Slope section of New York City. Our vibrant learning environment draws students from all over the city. Admission to the school is competitive and both our parents and students value achievement and community.
The Berkeley Carroll Middle School seeks an enthusiastic and creative artist in residence to develop our woodworking program in our Beta Lab (maker space). We are looking to provide middle school students with experiences to help them discover the brilliance in their hands through exposure and practice with tools from the pull saw to the combination square. This program, which was formally launched this year, is in need of someone who is excited by and has experience developing innovative, interdisciplinary curriculum in collaboration with other content area teachers. Ideal candidates are working artists with experience in the visual arts-- drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, design, and woodworking expertise.
Flexibility, creativity, stamina, humor, and an abiding interest in the special qualities of middle schoolers are essential. The Berkeley Carroll middle school values collegiality and an ability to listen. Our supportive community strives to honor relationships through a commitment to restorative practices.
Berkeley Carroll is committed to creating an environment that includes a diversity of perspectives and to cultivating an equitable, inclusive learning community in which everyone has a true sense of belonging. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to, and experience with, diversity, equity, or inclusion work are especially encouraged to apply.
Candidates should complete the employment application and submit a resume, cover letter, and references to the Middle School Director, Yabome Kabia, firstname.lastname@example.org. No phone calls, please.
