Lower School Lead Teacher

Berkeley Carroll is a Pre-K through grade 12 college preparatory school of close to 1,000 students located in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn in New York City. Our vibrant intellectual community draws students from all over the city. Admission to the school is competitive, and both our parents and students value achievement and community.

The Lower School is seeking a full-time Lead Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. Lead teachers are responsible for the teaching of anti-biased, literacy, math, social studies, and writing curricula while developing a sense of community in a self-contained classroom of approximately 20 students. Additionally, the teacher in this role will mentor and collaborate with a full-time associate teacher. Candidates should be prepared to work with a team of committed and professional educators in a school that deeply values community, equity, and belonging. 

Qualifications

  • Lead teaching experience in a Lower School setting
  • Deep knowledge of the developmental needs of elementary students
  • Demonstrated understanding of contemporary pedagogy
  • Skill in growing and supporting programs and practices that are culturally responsive, and a recognition of one’s own biases and how they may impact one’s perspectives and actions
  • Experience and excitement for collaborating with a team of professionals to create innovative, integrated learning experiences
  • Interest in growth, learning and implementing new curriculum as we see opportunities for improvement in program
  • A Master’s degree in Education, or related field

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Familiarity with anchor resources such as Teachers College Reading and Writing Units of Study and with the TERC and Contexts for Learning Math, and Fundations for the younger grades
  • Training and experience in Responsive Classroom, RULER, and restorative practices
  • Experience mentoring early career teaching partners

Salary and benefits are highly competitive and will be offered commensurate with experience and credentials. The salary range for this position is $65K-$90K.
