Christina Beverage joined the Board of Trustees in 2018 and serves on the Buildings and Grounds Committee. Chrissy has been a Berkeley Carroll parent since 2015 and has three children in the Lower School. She currently enjoys being a stay-at-home mom and volunteering with her dog as a therapy team with The Good Dog Foundation. Chrissy previously worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She has a M.S. in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. from The University of Virginia.
Bill Caleo joined the Board in July 2020 after serving on the Buildings and Grounds Committee in the winter of 2020. Bill is the Parent of Willa and Campbell Caleo. Campbell is a rising 5th grader at BC and had been attending the school since Pre-K 4. Bill has lived in Park Slope since 2003 and is the founder of his family run residential real estate development business, The Brooklyn Home Company. Bill has a BS in Business from Skidmore College where he now serves on the Board of Trustees and has an MFA in Acting from SMU in Dallas, TX. Bill is also on the Boards for his Family Office and The Hyannis Sound, an a cappella group in Cape Cod, MA.
Lillian W. Chege has been a proud member of the Berkeley Carroll community since 2015. Her daughter, Olivia, is currently in the Fifth Grade.Professionally, Lillian is a consultant in the social impact space. She works closely with family offices to structure philanthropic spend and develop global interventions that aim to secure the social and economic resilience of individuals and communities. She is a passionate advocate for equity and has led interventions in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and the United States; primarily focused on youth employment/workforce development, education, and women's economic empowerment. As an active member of the BC Community, she served two years as Lower School Vice President for the Parents Association and as a non-trustee on both the Admissions and Communications and Diversity and Inclusion committees/task forces.
ANTHONY J. CORNICELLO
Anthony J. Cornicello joined the Board of Trustees in 2015 and currently serves as Chair of the Buildings and Grounds Committee. Tony has been a Berkeley Carroll parent since 2004. He is a partner at Cornicello, Tendler & Baumel-Cornicello, LLP where he practices commercial real estate, primarily representing property owners. In addition, Tony and his office have provided legal services to several not-for-profits including The Italian American Museum, Safe Horizons, The Intrepid Museum, Visiting Nurse Services and New Destiny Housing Corporation. Tony, a life-long New Yorker, is a graduate of Fordham University and St. Johns University School of Law. He is married to his business partner, Susan Baumel-Cornicello, and they have two children, Emily, a 2016 graduate of the school and Daniel, class of 2019.
Robert Dunphy works at Invesco, where he serves as co-portfolio manager of the International Growth strategy. Prior to joining the firm, he worked as a lead analyst at Nextel Communications and as an analyst at Seneca Financial. Robert holds a B.S.F.S. in international economics from Georgetown University and an M.S. in finance from London Business School. He has three children at Berkeley Carroll.
Eric Eve joined the Board of Trustees in 2017 and serves on the Finance Committee. Eric is CEO of Ichor Strategies, a national public affairs consultancy he founded in 2015. Prior to launching Ichor, Eric held senior roles at Finsbury, the City of New York, Citigroup, Verizon and the Clinton White House. Eric serves on the Vestry of Trinity Wall Street and previously served on the boards of Union Theological Seminary and Graduate School of Political Management (George Washington University). He received his B.A. from Hobart College and Master’s degree from Baruch College. Eric and his wife, Dr. Felicia Stenhouse, are the proud parents of one BC student (Maxwell ‘22) and two BC alumni (Michael ’17 and Madison ’19).
Andrew has been a Berkeley Carroll parent since 2011. He is a partner in the New York office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and co-chair of Gibson Dunn’s Capital Markets Practice Group. Andrew earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School and his B.A. from the University of Michigan. He serves on the Finance Committee and the Development Committee.
LIISA PIERCE FIEDELHOLTZ
Liisa has spent 30 years working in women’s retail, currently the SVP of Product Sourcing and Services at Ross Stores. She sits on the NY Leadership Council of the Surfrider Foundation, an environmental non-profit. Liisa and her husband, Peter, have three children, Maija, a graduate of BC and attending UCLA, Kai and Anika, attending the Upper School.
Virginia Freire is a BC alumna attending Berkeley Carroll from Kindergarten through 12th Grade. She owns a boutique portrait studio in Brooklyn that specializes in artful portraiture telling extraordinary stories. She received a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies from Cornell University and has worked in the fields of social work, international education and fundraising. Virginia has lived abroad in Zimbabwe, Australia and Ecuador and currently lives with her family in her native Prospect Heights. She serves on the Committee on Trustees, the Community and Inclusion Advisory Group and the Financial Aid Task Force.
DENISE BRERETON GAMBLE
Denise Brereton Gamble joined the Board of Trustees in 2016. A public relations expert, she currently serves as a Senior Agency Analyst for New York City’s 311 Call Center. Denise has devoted most of her career to public service. A devoted patron of the arts, she is a member of the Parents Steering Committee at The Ailey School, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Denise has also been a mentor in Roman Catholic youth development programs. She and her husband Paul, an attorney and recently retired Captain, US Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps, have a son in the Upper School.
Katya has been a Berkeley Carroll parent since 2009 and has three children in the school (James, Madeleine and Samuel). She is the Co-Managing Partner of Jenner & Block LLP. Prior to joining Jenner, Katya was a federal prosecutor in the Eastern District of New York specializing in organized crime and racketeering cases; while an AUSA, Katya prosecuted the leadership of three of the five organized crime families of La Cosa Nostra. Katya earned her J.D. from Georgetown Law School, and her B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. Katya serves on the Development Committee and is Chair of the Committee on Trustees. Katya also serves on the Boards of the Eastern District Association and the Office of the Appellate Defender, and is on the Advisory Committee for the Center for Constitutional Rights and on the Lawyers Council for the Citizens Crime Commission of NYC.
Julie Kay is a longtime Berkeley Carroll parent who joined the Board in 2017. Julie’s legal consulting practice works with non-profit organizations on litigation and policy initiatives to advance gender equity and human rights in the U.S. and worldwide. Previously, Julie worked as an attorney for the Center for Reproductive Rights, for the Irish Family Planning Association and as a Senior Strategist for the Ms. Foundation for Women. Julie serves as Vice Chair on the board. She and her husband Tom Fergus, an attorney, have one daughter in the Upper School and a second daughter in the Lower School.
Sarada has been a Berkeley Carroll parent since 2013 and joined the Board of Trustees in 2015. She is a medical oncologist and hematologist with a passion for teaching and her practice takes her across the U.S. She received her initial medical degree in India after graduating from The Bronx High School of Science and then underwent residency and fellowship training at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. After going into private practice and teaching in Brooklyn, Sarada relocated with her family to India, where she set up an oncology practice that served as an international model for treating patients of all socioeconomic strata. She currently serves on the Board's Communications & Admissions Committee, the Committee on Trustees, the Educational Task Force and the Community and Inclusion Task Force. She is a Berkeley Carroll Parent Ambassador and was previously active in the BC Parent Association.
Julie has been a Berkeley Carroll parent since 2012 and joined the Board of Trustees in 2018. She is Chair of the Communications and Admissions Committee and serves on the Community and Inclusion Advisory Group. Prior to joining the board, she served as a parent ambassador and class parent. She has one child in the middle school, and one in the lower school. Julie holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Tufts University, a M.A. in Mathematics of Finance from Columbia University, and completed a pre-med post-baccalaureate at Columbia University. She previously worked in software development in the finance and e-commerce industries.
Susan has been a Berkeley Carroll parent since 2008 and trustee since 2013. She currently serves as Chair of the Board of the Brooklyn Public Library. Susan has previously worked at Jazz at Lincoln Center and Time Inc. in business affairs and project management. She has an M.B.A. from New York University’s Stern School of Business and a master’s in library and information science from Pratt Institute. In addition to serving as Secretary of the Berkeley Carroll board, Susan is a member of the Committee on Trustees, Community & Inclusion Advisory Group and Financial Aid Task Force.
Dennis Masel attended the University of Colorado at Boulder on a naval scholarship and graduated with a degree in English Literature. He left the Navy having attained the rank of Lieutenant. After the Navy, he embarked on a career in advertising and entertainment. In 2003 he started Creative Circle New York and, as Chief Operating Officer proved instrumental in growing the company from a three office shop to a company with 35 offices and over 400 employees across the United States and Canada.
He has judged numerous awards shows, is a guest lecturer at the Art Institute of Chicago and has sat on the Professional Advisory Committee for the Illinois Institute of Art. He currently sits on the Board of Trustees for the American Repertory Theater, the Advisory Council for Transportation Alternatives NYC and is Chairman of the Advisory Committee for A Little Help out of Denver, CO. In 2015 Dennis and his wife formed the Jeanne and Dennis Masel Foundation which focuses on Elderly Care, Arts Education, Bicycle Advocacy and the Arts. Dennis is founder and president of Camera Ready, an independent film production company dedicated to providing a platform for emerging voices. In his free time you’ll find him cycling, collecting vinyl or making art with his daughter Sadie.
Morad has been a Berkeley Carroll parent since 2014. He is a portfolio manager at Goldman Sachs Asset Management where he focuses on quantitative approaches to investing in mortgage backed securities. Morad has a PhD in physics from NYU. He continues to follow developments in science and enjoys exploring them with both children and Adults. Morad is an avid runner and rock climber. He currently serves on the finance committee.
James Morgano '06 is a proud BC alum. He currently works on Early Childhood initiatives for the NYC Department of Education, including Pre-K For All and 3-K For All. James is a graduate of Drew University and holds an M.A. in Politics and Education from Columbia University. He lives in Windsor Terrace with his wife and fellow BC alum, Caroline Towbin.
Prashant has been a parent at Berkeley Carroll since 2012 and joined the Board in 2016. He is a Managing Director at Owl Rock Capital Partners. Prashant received a MBA from NYU-Stern School of Business, where he was conferred the Stern Scholar Award. He has a Masters in Science in Oceanography from UNH/Dartmouth College. Previously, he received a Bachelor of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He holds a patent for a wave-powered sea-water pump for use in aquaculture farms and co-founded Krishi Power Pvt Ltd, a small-scale renewable energy generation company in India. Prashant lives in Park Slope with his wife and two children, one in the Middle School and another in the Lower School. He enjoys skiing, cooking and hiking with his kids. He is the chair of the Finance Committee.
Aaron Naparstek is a journalist, producer and the founder of Streetsblog, a non-profit publication covering urban planning and transportation policy. Since its launch in 2006, Streetsblog has been instrumental in galvanizing a livable streets movement working toward improving transit, biking and pedestrian infrastructure in U.S. cities. In the neighborhood, Aaron has served as a trustee of the Park Slope Civic Council and was a co-founder of the Park Slope Neighbors organization. Aside from a three year stint in Cambridge, Massachusetts for a Loeb Fellowship at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, Aaron and his wife Joanne Nerenberg have been Berkeley Carroll parents since 2010, with two boys in 8th and 10th grades. This is Naparstek’s first year on the Board of Trustees.
Tina is a Berkeley Carroll parent with three daughters who attend the school and another who graduated in 2019. She is a real estate entrepreneur with a passion for reviving old houses. Tina is active in the local community and has served on the boards of The Prospect Park Alliance and Brooklyn Children's Theatre. She lives in Park Slope with her five children and husband, John Novogratz. She holds a B.A. from The College of William and Mary.
Alexa Robinson joined the Board in 2019 and currently serves on the Buildings and Grounds Committee. She has been a Berkeley Carroll parent since 2006. She previously worked at MTV Networks in video and film production and promos. She has a B.A. in Art / Semiotics from Brown University and recently completed a program in sustainable building and design in San Francisco. Alexa and her husband, Steven Johnson, have 2 sons in the Upper School and 1 BC alum, class of 2020.
Chad has been a Berkeley Carroll parent since 2012. He is the founder of Tapgram, an assistive messaging platform for people who have difficulty with keyboards. He previously worked at NBC News in London and New York as well as Reuters Television, before moving into field of branded entertainment where he developed, produced and directed web shows. He has a B.A. from Brown University and is a recent graduate of the Flatiron School. He loves coding, 3D printing and tinkering with his kids. He is the Chair of the Board.
James Shipp has been a Berkeley Carroll parent since 2014 and currently has a daughter in the Lower School. James recently joined the Board of Trustees in 2019 and now serves on the Buildings and Grounds Committee. Professionally, James has worked in the field of community development throughout his career and is presently a Senior Project Manager at Neighborhood Restore, a non-profit organization developing affordable housing throughout New York City. James holds a B.A. in Urban Studies from Brown University and lives in Bedford-Stuyvesant with his wife Carmen Maldonado and daughter Pilar.
Colby has been a Berkeley Carroll parent since 2015 and has two children in the school (Libby and Kit). He became a board member in 2019 and currently serves on the Finance Committee. He is a managing director and senior research analyst at the investment bank Cowen and Company specializing in the communications infrastructure and telecom services industries. Mr. Synesael has been covering the communications infrastructure and telecom services industries as a senior research analyst since 2006 and has been in equity research since 2001. He holds a BS from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.
