Photography
The Upper School Photography program begins with foundation courses in the fundamentals of black-and-white photography. The basic technical skills cover the operation of a manual 35 mm camera, exposing and developing film, making contact sheets, enlarging and finishing of black-and-white photographs. Black and white film processing and printing are emphasized. Attention is given to aesthetic concerns, critiques, familiarity with the work of established photographers and guest artists.
Eleventh and twelfth grade students are able to take Photography Portfolio courses. Designed for those students who have a working knowledge of black and white photography and are comfortable in the darkroom, Photography Portfolio provides a thorough understanding of the knowledge and skills necessary to develop fine black and white prints. Students produce quality prints, working within a theme to create an artistic statement, and to develop a photographer’s portfolio.
