Volleyball Preseason Delayed 3 Days
Posted August 12, 2014
The Athletic Center and 181 Lincoln Place gym floors are being upgraded in preparation for the 2014-2015 school year. Volleyball preseason will now begin on Thursday, August 21 so that construction may be completed in a timely manner.
See below for a message from Athletic Director Dick McGrath:
"I hope the summer has been a good one for everyone. It has not really dawned on me how close we are to the new school year; preseason opens next week!
Along those lines, circumstances have forced a change in the preseason schedule for the Varsity and JV Volleyball teams. As some of you may have heard, torrential downpours in early July flooded the Athletic Center, much like the flood in Los Angeles on the UCLA campus. Later evaluations determined that the floor needed to be replaced in its entirety. Work on that project has already begun. However, the court will not be available for most, if not all, of the preseason. Complicating the issue is the work underway in the 181 Lincoln Place gym. The floor is being completely refinished; new, brighter lights are being installed. The contractors are redoubling their efforts to complete these upgrades in a timely manner; however, it is now clear that the gym will not be ready for practicing on Monday, 8/18. We are postponing the start of the Volleyball preseason until Thursday, 8/21. All girls (Varsity and JV) should meet at 181 Lincoln Place at 10:00 AM on both Thursday and Friday.
Arrangements for the following week have not yet been determined. We would like to get a little more definitive information on the status of the gyms before announcing practice times and location.
Many apologies for any difficulties these alterations create. We look forward to welcoming our Volleyball players a few days later next week."

The players certainly deserve congratulations for their play in the Alliance League playoffs. Convincing wins over Packer (14-0) and Long Island Lutheran (9-0) earned another title. Shutout pitching and timely hitting combined to produce a pair of excellent outings. At the trophy presentation at MCU Park, it was announced that Ian Miller had earned a second Most Valuable Player designation (Regular Season); Chris Harper was named Most Valuable Player for the playoffs.
With the regular season complete, the Lions begin NYSAIS play this weekend. Berkeley Carroll was awarded the 3rd seed; that means Dalton will be our opening round opponent. For a complete view of the tournament, see the attached bracket.
