Free Bus Service

Berkeley Carroll is truly a New York City school. We recognize that accessibility to our campus helps ensure the diversity of our community and that convenience is important, especially for working families.

To make it easier for students from every neighborhood and borough to attend Berkeley Carroll, we are proud to offer free bus service to all eligible students.

Expanded service for the 2014-2015 school year

Building on the success of our first year of providing this service, we're making noteworthy improvements, starting with the appointment of a Transportation Coordinator, Carolyn Rosado, who is also our Human Resources Manager. She will be a great asset to families as the program develops.

Please address all questions and concerns to Carolyn; she will be happy to answer them in a timely and effective manner.  Carolyn's office is at 152 Sterling Place and she can be reached at:

Email address:
Dedicated transportation cell phone: 347-534-7979

Additionally, to reduce student transit time, we're utilizing new transportation software that will make bus operations even more efficient and enable us to devise the most timely and effective bus routes.

Bus routes will be finalized and emailed to families by Friday, August 22.

Eligibility and how to register

(Note: the registration deadline was June 13, 2014)

Our service is provided through a combination of Department of Education (DOE) buses and private bus companies. (Students who use a DOE bus will not be eligible for a discounted MetroCard.)

Per DOE guidelines and as represented on the table below, transportation eligibility is determined on the basis of the student's grade level and the distance between the student's residence and the school. Please review this table carefully. To determine the distance from your residence to school, please go to

 Grade  Distance
   Less than 1/2 mile
1/2 mile but less than 1 mile
1 mile but less than 1-1/2 miles
1-1/2 miles or more
 Not eligible
 Eligible   Eligible   Eligible
Not eligible   Not eligible   Eligible   Eligible
Not eligible   Not eligible   Not eligible   Eligible

In order to meet the increased demand for service, all buses will make designated joint stops; door-to-door service will no longer be provided.

Lastly, to ensure a pleasant, safe experience for all students, please note that if a student does not behave appropriately on the bus, he/she will not be able to participate in this program.

Thank you

Thank you for supporting us through this second year of expanded service. We're excited about the growth and the convenience it provides our community. We'll continue to work hard to provide the best possible service to our families.
