You are also welcome to call us any time--we look forward to hearing from you, meeting you, and working with you throughout the application process.
The Process
Admission to Berkeley Carroll is selective, the requirements rigorous; the aim is to enroll a diversity of intellectually inquisitive, talented, and academically capable students who will make a positive contribution to the school community and who will find personal success at the school. There are two Admissions Offices. The Lower School office (preK - 4 th grade) is at 701 Carroll Street; the Middle/Upper School office (5 – 12 th grade) is at 181 Lincoln Place.
The first step in the admissions process begins with an Open House tour of the school in the fall, prior to the year of admission. Applications should be completed as early as possible, preferably by December 1.
PreKindergarten and Kindergarten:
Parents complete an application form and a parent statement and provide a teacher evaluation. The Director of Admissions interviews the parents and the child. Kindergarten applicants undergo standardized testing administered by the Educational Records Bureau.
Grades 1 through 4:
Parents complete an application form, a parent statement, and provide a teacher evaluation and records from previous schools. Parents and the applicant are interviewed and spend time visiting the school. Applicants undergo standardized testing administered by the Educational Records Bureau.
Grades 5 through 12:
The process requires an application, a parent statement, a student statement, a sample of student writing, teacher evaluations and transcripts from previous schools, and standardized testing administered by the Educational Records Bureau. The Director of Admissions interviews the parents and applicant. The applicant meets with the appropriate divisional director.
