Lower School

Lower School students engage with a rich and demanding curriculum that supports the development of an in-depth understanding of concepts and skills.

The students enjoy exploring multiple approaches to solving problems and their teachers are expert guides who help them navigate the landscape of elementary learning.  Our students know the facts, algorithms and vocabulary, not simply because they’ve been taught, but because they’ve built an understanding of them which they will expand on as they move to Middle School.

In the fall of 2012 Berkeley Carroll initiated a partial immersion Spanish program (Learning through Language Acquisition, or LLA) in all PreK, Kindergarten, and 1st grade classes. The program will expand next year to include 2nd through 4th grades.

The Lower School buildings on Carroll Street house approximately 355 students. We have one class of three year old students (PreK3) and three classes each of students from PreK4 up through fourth grade. For PreK, we offer a variety of programs--Half Day, Full Day, and Flexi (three full days/two half days), depending on children’s previous school experience. For Kindergarten through fourth grade our school day runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Extended day, both before and after school, is available. Click to learn more about our innovative programs and curriculum
