A Message from Berkeley Carroll's Neighbors

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Saturday, September 29, 2012

To the Berkeley Carroll School Community, Local officials, and Friends on the Occasion of The Berkeley Carroll School Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the New School Building Additions:

In July 2009, we were apprised of a plan by The Berkeley Carroll School to expand their facilities along our property lines (and those of the other properties that abut the site in the rear yards on St. John’s Place).  At a public meeting held at The Berkeley Carroll School, we voiced our strong opposition to The Berkeley Carroll School’s expansion plans as originally configured.

With the assistance of our elected officials we met with The Berkeley Carroll School and explained our concerns. As a result of negotiations, we structured a series of modifications and agreements that were viewed by all of us involved as a reasonable compromise between the School and its neighbors, and equally significantly a blueprint for future interactions between the neighbors and The Berkeley Carroll School.

Since then we have all worked closely, again with the assistance of our elected officials, through the construction process to assure a smooth and neighborly transition to that which we have before us today, an expansion of The Berkeley Carroll School that is not only a beautiful new addition to the School, but to our Park Slope community as well. And in the process we have hopefully cemented a renewed spirit of cooperation and mutual respect between The Berkeley Carroll School, and us, the neighbors on St. John's Place.

We take this occasion to not only congratulate and thank The Berkeley Carroll School community but also all our elected officials for a job well done. With much appreciation.
